About the Program

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, has recently launched the Technology Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs (TIDE 2.0) program. This program aims to strengthen 2,000 Technology Startups, leveraging ICT-enabled technologies, in selected areas of national concern, e.g. Healthcare, Education, Agriculture, Financial inclusion including digital payments, Infrastructure and transportation, Environment and clean tech, Clean energy and other emerging areas.

SANDIP Incubator Association’s SANDIP TBI in collaboration with MeitY introduces multiple programs to support youth working on ICT-enabled ideas and solutions with knowledge, research resources, and grants for validation, development and commercialization of their idea and solution.


Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EiR)

A 12-month incubation program at SANDIP TBI to support young innovators working on ICT-enabled ideas and solutions towards solving a pressing need of national priority.

Objective: MeitY Tide 2.0 EiR

  • To promote tech entrepreneurship through financial and technical support to incubators engaged in supporting ICT startups using emerging technologies such as IoT, AI, Block-chain, Robotics etc. in preidentified areas of societal relevance.
  • The Scheme will be implemented through empowering 51 incubators across India and supporting close to 2,000 tech start-ups over a period of five years.
  • The scheme envisions creating a holistic ecosystem to support technology startups and incubation centers through identifying and creating necessary linkages.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a citizen of India.
  • Individual /team should have an idea /prototype.
  • At least one member from the team should be willing to pursue the idea full-time.
  • Cannot be combined with fellowships from other funding organizations.
  • The EIR applicant should be a citizen of India. An Indian citizen is defined as one who is in possession of a government approved proof of nationality such as a valid passport, voter’s id etc.
  • The EIR applicant should have completed:
  • a minimum of four years of formal full-time undergraduate/postgraduate education towards one or more degree program. Basic degree or diploma should be in science or engineering.
  • 3 years degree or diploma program and have 2-year full-time work experience post degree or diploma. Basic degree or diploma should be in science or engineering.

Meity Tide 2.0 Scale Up Investment Fund

The MeitY Startup Hub, MeitY, GoI has established the Technology Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs (TIDE) 2.0 Scaleup Investment Grant to support startups with viable products ready for commercialization. This grant aims to facilitate the development of multiple prototypes and the scaling up of products to prepare them for market entry.

Eligibility: Meity Tide 2.0 Scale Up Investment Fund

  • The applicant must be an individual or a team representing a scaling-stage startup that has validated its product and is ready for production scale-up, with demonstrable market demand.
  • The startup must be incubated at SANDIP TBI, Nashik.
  • The solution must be ICT-enabled and address a pressing need in one of the identified national priority domains.
  • At least one team member must commit full-time to the venture.
  • The applicant must not receive overlapping fellowships, grants, or seed funds from other funding organizations for the same purpose.
  • The applicant must be an Indian citizen, verified by documents such as a valid passport, Voter ID, etc.
  • The applicant must have completed:
    1. A minimum of four years of formal, full-time undergraduate/postgraduate education leading to one or more degrees in science or engineering, or
    2. A three-year degree or diploma program, followed by two years of full-time work experience in a relevant field. The basic qualification must be in science or engineering.

  • TIDE 2.0 EIR support recipient should not treat this support as a stop gap arrangement to support them in their academic pursuits or transition between jobs.

  • TIDE-EIR seeking the support should demonstrate his ability to build a scalable technology business startup. The background of the TIDE-EIR needs to be provided in a prescribed format.

The incubation centers are usually the places that provide the support and services for proof of concept of new idea/concept. The PoC is a stage before the test marketing (or beta stage) of any product/services.

A business idea is a concept for commercial purposes and typically centers on a product or service that can be sold for money by adopting an operational and practical model. The characteristics of a unique business idea are:

  • It must fulfil customer needs
  • It should be innovative and solve market failure
  • Uniqueness in features and appeal
  • Clear Focus
  • Profitable in the long run

The product/services which are traditionally in the market may be improved upon in a multiple manner so as to differentiate them. The product/service differentiator usually comes with improvement of quality, service and overall standardization. For example, the intervention of technology helped in railway ticket/bus ticket and hotel booking. Similarly, packaging of milk helped it improve ease of handling and sale anytime during the day.

The process of improvement in the existing product/services in its manufacturing/delivery/use and applicability by way of technology and enhances efficiency adding to its value proposition/benefits is termed as innovation. For example, the mobile app services are innovation for delivering product and services which were earlier possible to be delivered only through a computer.

An entity shall be considered as a Startup:

  • Upto a period of ten years from the date of incorporation/registration, if it is incorporated as a private limited company (as defined in the Companies Act, 2013) or registered as a partnership firm (registered under section 59 of the Partnership Act, 1932) or a limited liability partnership (under the Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008) in India.
  • Turnover of the entity for any of the financial years since incorporation/ registration has not exceeded Rs. 100 crore.
  • Entity is working towards innovation, development or improvement of products or processes or services, or if it is a scalable business model with a high potential of employment generation or wealth creation.

The business that focuses and registers enough profits so as to serve its own cost of existence and grow on a year on year basis is a sustainable business. The products and services of the business remains relevant in its value proposition and benefits to its customers to be in demand sustains itself

Mentoring involves advising or training an individual or a group of individuals and guiding them pertaining to their respective activity or domain. This involves counseling, training and guidance by experts. A mentor can be anyone who helps a new individual learn and understand the nuances of a particular activity/work/business/art/trade.
